The foundation of the Great Relations universe

The Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) method

How we use EFT in our courses

EFT is the therapy model we are trained in, and it is the foundation for our development of knowledge and courses in our universe.

EFT has a model we call the couple's cycle, which is the pattern that can cause us to lose emotional connection with each other.

Research that helps you connect with your partner or other close relation:

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is constantly evolving based on rigorous research into what can support close relationships to build or rebuild a broken connection, and to re-establish a loving and safe relationship.

Did you know that... studies show that up to 75 % of couples who receive EFT therapy resolve their crises, while up to 90 % experience significant improvements in the relationship - and that EFT is effective even for couples who were at high risk of divorce ....

EFT, which Jette Simon is certified in and co-developer of, was originally developed in the mid-1980s by psychologists Dr Sue Johnson (English-Canadian) and Les Greenberg (South African).

Jette Simon is one of the first in the world to incorporate EFT into her psychological research and training programmes for therapists, and Jette is the founder of the Danish EFT centre DKCEFT.
EFT is not only for couples, but also developed for families and individual therapeutic programmes.

The Great Relations course universe is the first online platform developed based on the EFT method.

The focus is on supporting the partners in creating and strengthening their relationship so that they become more available, responsive and in touch with each other.

In couples therapy, through the support of the therapist, the partners will be able to achieve an emotionally safe contact where they can meet each other with empathy and care, as opposed to the defences and conflicts they have otherwise been stuck in. The same methods and counselling you can find with an EFT therapist are the starting point for the universe Great Realtions offers on this platform.

The method was developed based on thorough research into the processes and events that can support couples in building or rebuilding a broken relationship and in recreating a loving and safe relationship.

Today, EFT is recognised with Gold Standard as an empirical evidence-based method by the American Psychological Association.

The developers of EFT - including Jette Simon - are committed to research in collaboration with specialists and universities on the development of EFT methods and effects. Research shows that up to 75 per cent of couples who receive EFT therapy resolve their crises, while up to 90 per cent experience significant improvements in their relationship. These results seem to hold true even for couples at high risk of divorce.

However, EFT is not only about love relationships, but can just as easily be used to understand and develop platonic relationships in the family, circle of friends or in the workplace to build trust, closeness, openness or co-operation.

The EFT method develops robust, close and harmonious relationships that can tolerate honest, clear and open dialogue, and the method teaches us very concretely how to release crises and use crises to achieve even deeper relationships with the most important people in our lives.

EFT helps you to see......

that when things go wrong in your relationship - well, then its not the two of you that are wrong individually. We say that "the pattern has gotten you." You're good people with good intentions, but you can develop a negative pattern that repeats itself over and over again - taking you in a direction that doesn't work for you as a couple. And then each of you can become overwhelmed and feel like you're alone without intimacy and connection with the other. When you learn to talk about what's happening when you feel like doing the wrong thing, you'll find that you can start using a dialogue and behaviour that very quickly restores the connection you miss.

Love is like a kiss between porcupines. They press up against each other on cold winter nights. Closeness is natural and necessary for survival. The risk of closeness is that you can get hurt.

Yes we are. Jette Simon was one of the first in the world to become EFT certified to take couples in EFT therapy, and since then, as an authorised psychologist and supervisor, she has taught therapists and psychologists in the method for therapy with couples, families and in individual sessions. Vibeke Hartkorn has followed Jette Simon's training programme for 6 years between 2016 and 2022, and is well on her way to gaining experience as an EFT therapist for couples and with individual sessions. Both are members of the international EFT organisation ICEEFT (International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy) and the Danish sister organisation DKCEEFT, founded in 2016 by Jette Simon and psychologist Steen Rassing. Great Relations therefore has access to the latest research and knowledge about the effects of EFT and participates in the exchange of experience with other trained EFT therapists.

Jette Simon is not taking on any more clients. This is one of the reasons why we have created Great Relations - so that Jette's strong experience, good advice and identification of negative patterns in relationships can be made available to everyone through our courses.

Vibeke Hartkorn, who has been trained in the EFT method by Jette Simon for 6 years, will be taking a few selected clients into online couples therapy in 2024.
