The Foundation of the Great Relations Universe
The Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) Method
How we use EFT in our courses
EFT is the therapy model we are trained in and serves as the foundation for our development of knowledge and courses in our universe.
EFT includes a model we call the couple’s cycle, which represents the pattern that can lead to a loss of emotional connection between partners.
Research that helps you connect with your partner or other close relation:
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is constantly evolving based on rigorous research into what supports close relationships, helps rebuild broken connections, and re-establishes loving and safe bonds.
Did you know that studies show up to 75% of couples who receive EFT therapy resolve their crises, while up to 90% experience significant improvements in their relationships? EFT is effective even for couples at high risk of divorce.
EFT, which Jette Simon is certified in and a co-developer of, was originally developed in the mid-1980s by psychologists Dr. Sue Johnson (English-Canadian) and Les Greenberg (South African).
Jette Simon is one of the first in the world to incorporate EFT into her psychological research and training programs for therapists and is the founder of the Danish EFT center DKCEFT. EFT is not only for couples but also designed for families and individual therapeutic programs.
The Great Relations course universe is the first online platform developed based on the EFT method.
The focus is on supporting partners in creating and strengthening their relationship so that they become more available, responsive, and in touch with each other.
In couples therapy, with the support of a therapist, partners can achieve emotionally safe contact, where they can meet each other with empathy and care, rather than the defenses and conflicts they were previously stuck in. The same methods and counseling provided by an EFT therapist are the foundation for the Great Relations universe offered on this platform.
The method was developed based on thorough research into the processes and events that support couples in building or rebuilding a broken relationship and recreating a loving and safe connection.
Today, EFT is recognized as a Gold Standard empirical evidence-based method by the American Psychological Association.
The developers of EFT, including Jette Simon, are committed to ongoing research in collaboration with specialists and universities to advance EFT methods and their effects. Research shows that up to 75% of couples who receive EFT therapy resolve their crises, while up to 90% experience significant improvements in their relationship. These results are even observed in couples at high risk of divorce.
However, EFT is not only for romantic relationships but can also be applied to understanding and developing platonic relationships within families, among friends, or in the workplace to build trust, closeness, openness, and cooperation.
The EFT method fosters robust, close, and harmonious relationships that can withstand honest, clear, and open dialogue. It teaches concrete strategies for resolving crises and using them to achieve deeper connections with the most important people in our lives.

EFT helps you to see......
When things go wrong in your relationship, it doesn’t mean that either of you is individually at fault. Instead, we say that 'the pattern has gotten you.' You are both good people with good intentions, but you may develop a negative pattern that repeats itself, leading you in a direction that doesn’t work for you as a couple. This can leave each of you feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and disconnected. By learning to communicate about what’s happening when you feel tempted to act in a way that undermines the relationship, you can begin to use dialogue and behaviors that quickly restore the connection you’re missing.
Love is like a kiss between porcupines. They press against each other on cold winter nights, where closeness is natural and necessary for survival. However, the risk of closeness is that you can get hurt.

Yes, our experience and international research confirm this. The developers of EFT, including Great Relations' clinical international psychologist Jette Simon, are committed to conducting research in collaboration with specialists and universities on the development and effectiveness of EFT methods. Studies show that up to 75% of couples who receive EFT therapy resolve their crises, while up to 90% experience significant improvements in their relationship. These results appear to hold true even for couples at high risk of divorce. There is no limit on when you can take the course, so you can always return to it later when you have time.
Yes, we are. Jette Simon was one of the first in the world to become EFT certified for couples therapy. Since then, as an authorized psychologist and supervisor, she has taught therapists and psychologists the EFT method for working with couples, families, and individuals. Vibeke Hartkorn completed Jette Simon's training program from 2016 to 2022 and is gaining experience as an EFT therapist for both couples and individuals. Both are members of the international EFT organization ICEEFT (International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy) and the Danish affiliate DKCEEFT, which was founded in 2016 by Jette Simon and psychologist Steen Rassing. Great Relations, therefore, has access to the latest research and knowledge about the effects of EFT and participates in the exchange of experiences with other trained EFT therapists.
Jette Simon is not accepting new clients. This is one of the reasons we created Great Relations: to make Jette's extensive experience, valuable advice, and insights into negative patterns in relationships available to everyone through our courses.
In 2024, Vibeke Hartkorn, who has trained in the EFT method with Jette Simon for six years, will be taking on a few selected clients for online couples therapy.
